The Hospital Bag

The birthing class, doctor, and friends will all tell you what you SHOULD pack for the hospital. Here are the contents of my hosptial bag:

  • Chap Stick
  • Slippers
  • Clean undies
  • PJs (loose drawstring pants, hubb’s T-shirt)
  • Nursing Bra
  • Nursing Pads
  • Breath Mints
  • Socks
  • Book
  • Magazine for Hubbs
  • Change of clothes for Hubbs
  • Change of clothes for me
  • Hairbrush
  • Hair ties
  • Make-up bag
  • Camera
  • Toothbrush/toothpaste/Shampoo/Conditioner/Soap
  • Instant hand sanitizer
  • Tucks pads
  • Journal
  • Cell phone
  • Cell phone charger
  • Separate Bag with Baby clothes, diapers, wipes, etc.

What I actually used:

  • Chap Stick
  • Slippers
  • Hairbrush
  • Hair ties
  • Toothbrush/toothpaste/shampoo/conditioner/soap
  • Camera (duh)
  • And the hubbs used the stuff packed for him.

With all the giveaways the hospitals do, I walked in with three bags and walked out with six. So unless you live an hour away from the hospital, don’t sweat it. The four essentials? Chapstick, hair ties, toothbrush, and the camera. You have those, you can wing the rest. (Although slippers would be the No.5)

But wait, you say: You didn’t use the change of clothes that you packed or the clean undies? I ended up wearing the tent of a dress I walked in wearing (because no waistband=more comfort) and the hospital gives you horrible, terrible, but oh-so-comfortable stretchy granny panties to wear.
